about

Myk Jung, so far known as voice of The Fair Sex, Testify and Nice Gods Bleed, releases with "Zenith is Decline" the first musical project running under his own name... and astonishingly this album does not present some sort of Industrial Rock as might have been expected - instead it puts forward a very fine treasury of timeless melancholic ballads.

Piano, acoustic guitars, violins. Tranquil gentle atmospheric passages of frailty, out of which arise introverted and sensitive song-jewels: For a long time Myk has craved to put forth the balladesque side of his personality, and to cast himself, as well as the listener, into a deep abyss of sublime sadness. He was able to gather his ballads out of a huge pool of sad songs which he had created throughout long years of secret composing. It was his purpose to choose the most touching amongst these his personal song-favourites and to record and produce them with the help of some befriended musicians.

In spite of trying to exercise restraint we have to admit: he has succeeded grandiosely! Myks statement, that above all he was eager to create aural constructions that "should bring forth tears of emotion" will perhaps seem a bit exaggerated... but already the voices of those multiply who indeed testify their being deeply touched. Most likely however Myk had in mind to design an album that he himself would like to listen to, while being under the wing of boundless melancholy. Be it as it may: perhaps you should prepare yourself with a pack of handkerchiefs before you start listening to "Zenith is Decline".

The most extra-ordinary co-musician on "Zenith is Decline" might be Myks ten-year-old daughter Allegra, who created and lead-vocalized two of the Nine Ballads: "A Dream Of Sway" and "Veiled". These little shining jewels add their beauty very appropriate to the other songs: to the dramatic sister-titles "Ten Thousand Centuries" and "The Ancient Moon", to the very elegiac aural painting of sorrowful craving, "The Name Of Endless Yearning", to the two guitar-driven "Faltered" and "Toys Of Time", to the plain and laconic "The Shine Of Her Cold Eyes" - and, finally, to the unbelievable breath-taking "Beyond All", the title that some critic defined as "the dark reflection of Lennon's ‚Imagine'."

The Nine Ballads are being interweaved by the ethereal collages "Flight Part I - VI" that are thematically connected, lamenting about the transience that looms above us all. The moment that is doomed to vanish. The grief hat goes along with losing everything in the relentless stream of time. The shards of broken happiness. Woe unquenchable.

OK - since we are doomed to vanish anyway, we can use some of our remaining time in the warm embrace of melancholy - listening to "Zenith is Decline".
